Solving a problem at work
I made Script Collider in mid 2013 to solve an issue at work that our team was having. At the time merging and minifying files wasn't easy. Webpack didn't exist. Gulp didn't exist. And Grunt if it existed, I hadn't heard of it yet.
Our team had knocked around a few different possibilities. One direction we were heading toward was to do it with PHP scripts. Having built Chrome extensions in the past I realized there could be an easier way.
We did all of our development on localhost, and I realized with a chrome extension you could access the script and style files in the html page. Over two weekends and a few weekday evenings I made Script Collider and shared it with the team as a one click solution to merging and minifying files right in the browser. They loved it!
Seeing how helpful it was to our workflow I thought others could find it useful. I published it to the chrome store and reached out to Peter Cooper of JavaScript Weekly. They published it and that gave the app its initial boost of users.
At its height the app had 600 weekly active users.
